At Our Booth
Experience Japanese Embroidery: Painting with Threads. At the booth we will have several original artworks by embroidery artists as well as a hands-on display. Visitors can try their own hand at painting with threads. Scheduled to attend are embroidery artists Willa Tanabe and Carol Nagano. Ms. Tanabe and Ms. Nagano are based in Hawaii and California, respectively. They are happy to answer your questions and let you try your hand at embroidering these delicate stitches.
Meet Geisha Walking Dog. One of the artworks on display will be the beautiful Geisha Walking Dog by embroidery artist and certified instructor, Lynda Fu. Ms. Fu is based in the Bay Area and received her certification from the Japanese Embroidery Center of America. Ms. Fu is scheduled to attend our exhibition the week of Sept. 28 and offer classes in October and November (see below) .
Learn More about BDK America. At our booth we will also have information about BDK America's various activities. In addition to fostering the appreciation of Japanese art and culture, BDK America also publishes the Mahayana Buddhist canon in English in an ongoing series of scholarly volumes. We promote Buddhist understanding in other ways, including overseeing an annual book prize for the best book in Buddhism published each year and distributing free copies of The Teachingn of Buddha to interested parties and institutions in the continental United States.

At BDK America we are honored to be able to host two exciting events celebrating the art of Japanese embroidery:
- The Exhibition: Painting with Threads: The Exquisite Art of Japanese Embroidery, a display of Japanese embroidery by top artists from California and Hawaii.
- The Class: Painting with Threads: The Art of Japanese Embroidery, a series of four sessions for those interested in learning how to create their own paintings with threads.

Painting with Threads: The Exquisite Art of Japanese Embroidery, features embroidery artists from Hawaii and California, and runs for five days only, from Monday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Opening Day Tea Ceremony. Guests are invited to join us for our opening day, Monday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. for a tea cermony demonstration.

Lynda Fu, certified instructor of the Japanese Embroidery Center of America (Atlanta), will be represented in part by the masterpiece, Geisha Walking Dog, with thousands of hand stitches using silk threads.
Painting with Threads: The Art of Japanese Embroidery, is a four-part course under the guidance of certified instructor Lynda Fu. Certified by the Japanese Embroidery Center of America, Lynda will introduce the basics of Japanese embroidery in this four-session class, at the end of which students will have mastered enough to continue on their own.
The four class sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on four Fridays: October 23, 30 & November 13, 20, 2015. Note that there will be no class on Friday, November 6.
All classes are held at the BDK America facility at 1675 School Street, Moraga California. Off-street parking is provided; the facility is ADA compliant.
