Learn Ikebana — The Japanese Art of Flower Arranging
BDK America announces Ikebana classes for all interested in learning this exquisite Japanese art, under the expert guidance of certified instructor Jane Suiei Naito of Ikebana Now.
Beginner Level Classes in Ikebana
Suiei Sensei will offer beginner level classes in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. Students will learn about the unique design principles of Sogetsu Ikebana, by creating their own arrangement in class and having it critiqued by Suiei Sensei. Students will learn about line, mass, dimension and asymmetry as well as techniques for successfully using a kenzan/pinfrog. Students will take home their arrangements to be recreated in their homes.
Classes will be held at the BDK America facilities at 1675 School Street, in Moraga, California.
Class Schedule: Second and Fourth Thursdays of the Month
Classes start Thursday, January 14 and will continue on the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Enrollment Fee, $20
- Textbook, $25.
Tuition per Class
- Includes branches and flowers, $30.
- Beginner kits (container and kenzan/pin frog), $100.
- Ikebana hasami (Japanese scissors/shears), $30.
About Suiei Sensei and Ikebana Now
Suiei Sensei is certificated to teach the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. Through Ikebana Now she provides classes throughout the greater Bay area. Suiei Sensei represented the San Francisco Branch of Ikebana International at the 2011 Bouquets to Arts floral exhibit at the de Young Museum and has exhibited at numerous Ikebana International, Sogetsu’s ArtScape Flower Shows and Fioli's Mother's Day Flower Show. She has served on the Board of San Francisco Bay Area Branch of Ikebana International and currently serves as Treasurer of the Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch and is on the Sogetsu ArtScape Flower Show committee.
