Remembering our Founder
Founded in 1965 by the late Rev. Dr. Yehan Numata, BDK grew from and nurtured a period of renewed national interest in Buddhism in Japan. The organization grew into an international presence over the years, with major publishing projects including the translation of The Teaching of Buddha into 46 of the world's major languages and a project to translate the voluminous Chinese Mahayana canon into English (the BDK English Tripiṭaka Translation series).
Great New International Website
For a sense of BDK's many achievements around the globe, we recommend the newly invigorated and expanded English version of BDK's website. To the degree that English has grown in usage as a more common international language, this beautiful and informative English website from BDK will allow individuals around the world to appreciate BDK’s accomplishments.
